How to choose the right washbasin: type and characteristics

Furnishing a bathroom with taste is not always easy. You have to keep in mind your own ideas, the style we have given to the rest of the house, but above all the various technical needs. Plants, pipes, lights, windows, every detail must be kept in mind to best place the elements.

We have seen how to choose the bathroom fixtures, the shower tray, the shower cubicle and much more. In this article we deal with another fundamental element: the washbasin.

We will see what are the characteristics and types to keep in mind when choosing the right washbasin that will accompany you in your future years.

Type of sink

The washbasins on the market today are divided into many types, or families, each with its own characteristics and peculiarities.

But without getting lost in preambles, let’s analyze them all in detail, looking for the sink that’s right for us.

Let’s start with something classic: pedestal washbasins. These products are the most traditional and widespread in old-built houses, or even in service bathrooms where you generally prefer not to waste too much time with the style of the product. Its results are the ease of installation, which does not need support surfaces.

Going forward we already find a more modern product and in fact very widespread in today’s choices: the countertop washbasins. As the name indicates, this typology needs a plane to lean on. The aesthetic aspect of this family is certainly among the best on the market, but it has the disadvantage of having to resort, almost always, to tall or wall-mounted taps. Almost always because there are numerous variants with a tap hole.

Just as there are suspended sanitary ware, there are suspended washbasins in the same way. This option is ideal for small spaces, giving space to surfaces. These washbasins are anchored to the wall in total safety and allow the lower space to be completely free. They exist of all sizes and types, up to the very small hand basins.

From small, compact and delicate products, let’s move on to those that alone can define the bathroom environment: monolithic washbasins. Their name says it all, in fact they are washbasins made up of a single block of ceramic that reaches the floor. These products have unparalleled elegance, with the disadvantage of a very high cost compared to the types.

Finally, we dedicate a last paragraph to undercounter washbasins. These, a bit like the first pedestal washbasins, are products that are not very popular with the latest style requirements.

To choose your right washbasin, all you have to do is keep in mind the characteristics of each type and, depending on your needs for space, style and systems, you will find the right product for you.
