What are the types of sink taps on the market?

We often hear about taps, colours, quality of materials and which brand is the best. However, the less we talk about the types of sink taps on the market, it is how they differ from each other.

In fact, sink taps can be very varied and it is not certain that, while you are reading this article, new models or particular technologies have not been released.

In this short but comprehensive article, we will see together all the main types of sink taps, divided according to their operation.

Single lever tap

The single-lever tap is certainly the most widespread on the market, especially the version placed directly on the sink. This type of tap is very convenient and has spread rapidly due to its ability to mix hot and cold water with the simple movement of a lever and at the same time also regulate the flow.

This technology, which today seems normal and obvious to us, actually has a few decades behind it, as initially the taps needed at least two handles to regulate everything.

The single-lever tap then clearly opens the door to many more detailed versions: for example the tall ones that rest on the bathroom countertops for basin sinks, or even those that reach down to the floor.

2 handle faucet

This, however, is a slightly more classic tap and is always made up of a single body on which, however, two handles are fixed for regulating the hot water and cold water.

A more traditional tap therefore, which many still prefer for the more careful control that can be done over the water temperature.

3 hole tap

The three-hole tap is certainly the least likely to be seen today and is based on three holes to be made in the sink.

In each hole there will be an element of the tap: centrally the tap barrel and laterally the two handles. The operation is not dissimilar to that with two handles, but here the mechanism is expanded in a certain sense.

Being so expensive in terms of space has made it an uneconomical and uncommon product in modern furnishings which always opt for more minimal choices less linked to tradition.

Wall tap

The wall-mounted tap is certainly one of the most modern models around. Its internal functioning can be based on one of the three versions indicated in the previous paragraphs, the only difference is the placement on the wall.

This particular installation makes it a highly appreciated product in contemporary and modern furnishings, in fact companies focus a lot of their creative effort on creating new wall products.

Waterfall faucet

In conclusion we arrive at the waterfall tap, which, like the previous one, can have an operation based on one of three versions: single lever, two handles, three holes.

The difference lies in the water delivery. If traditionally we are used to seeing it descend in a straight flow, from top to bottom, here the flow follows the arc of a waterfall.

This turns out to be a very elegant product designed for the most sophisticated palates.
